So this post is going to be a Jack of all Trades type post…I don’t even know if I used that saying correctly. I’m 99.9% sure that I didn’t. Either way, it’s going to be a well rounded, covers a few different areas, might be a little sporadic and random type post.
First order of business:
I’d like to thank everyone who gave me input regarding my last post (10 Things). I was surprised and even moved by some of your responses! Aside from comments, I also received two personal emails! (email@example.com <- In case you want to say “whassaaaaap”, in the 2002 Budweiser commercial voice). I was touched that I was able to connect with complete strangers on such a personal level! I even received an email from somebody who grew up without her mother around. She is now having her first baby and is excited to be the one to teach these things to her daughter. Inspiring. Thanks for reading!
Second:There is an award floating around the blogging community called “The One Lovely Blog Award.” This award is given by somebody who a) has received the award, and b) digs your blog and wants to pay it forward! Tennizzlle over at I Can’t High Five nominated me. She writes wildly funny stories about her dating life, which hooked me because pre-Blake, my dating life was also hysterical. We’ll get there someday people, I promise. There are a few rules that go along with this award, and even though I’m a bit of a rule breakah (in Boston accent, Departed style), I’ll abide.
1.Accept the award, post it on your blog , link to the person who nominated you.
CHECK! See Above.
2.Pass the award to other newly discovered blogs.
3.Contact the bloggers to let them know they have been chosen for this award.
2. A few years ago I was all… “Meeting people on the internet is uber creepy!” Now, Since I’m not in an AOL chat room potentially talking to 60 year old stalkers, I’m down with the idea of corresponding with people who have something to say. The two bloggers I would like to pass the award to are bloggers who will be attending the Blog Better Boston conference that I am going to in March.
There’s nothing cooler than intelligent women making a difference in this world! Get over to her blog and check her out. We share mutual confessions of instances where we’ve worn fake engagement rings to fend off creeps at bars, (relax Dad…I said FAKE).
Sara is crafty. I am crafty. Badda-bing. She covers everything from recipes to vinyl record art. If you’re a friend who has been inside my apartment, you know that my apartment is also covered with vinyl record art. If you aren’t a friend and you’ve been in my apartment, then we have a problem. Check out Sara’s craftiness. You won’t be disappointed.
3. Let people know they have been given the award: I’ll get around to this, I promise!
Yesterday was Valentine’s Day *swoon*. When I was single I didn’t hate Valentine’s Day, because I think being young and single is an awesome thing and should be taken advantage of. All of you single people out there rolling your eyes at me, listen up! I’ve been single. I’ve been a lot of single. I’ve been dumped and single. I’ve been cheated on and single. I’ve been single and elbow deep in a pint of Chunky Monkey Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream. I get it. However, being single means you still have the time and opportunity to meet the love of your life.
After lots of wrong turns I finally found the person I was meant to be with, it just so happened that he lived 10,000 miles away from me. We are finally in the same country and Blake and I had the chance to celebrate Valentine’s Day TOGETHER. Last year we snail mailed each other packages. Opening presents over Skype was a little sad. This year we decided to have a low key V-Day, to focus on simply being together. We picked up ingredients and made a Greek style pizza and shared a bottle of wine. When Blake told me that my Big Bang Theory Sheldon “BAZINGA” shirt would be coming in the mail, I knew that I picked the right person to spend the rest of my life with.
I chose to be creative for Valentine’s Day! A few weeks ago I saw a “52 reasons why I love you” craft on Pinterest. Yup, this is going to be one of those, “DAMN YOU PINTEREST” posts. I thought that it would be an awesome idea. You come up with 52 reasons why you love the person, and write each one on a playing card from a deck of 52 cards. I didn’t take into account that I would most likely screw this up somehow, because let’s face it, I tend to screw things up.
I took a trip to Walmart and bought a deck of cards. When I arrived home, I was excited and motivated to start my project. I then realized that I bought a specialty deck with only 48 cards in it. VALENTINE’S DAY FAIL! I am convinced I have some sort of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder when it comes to making things, so I ventured back to Walmart for a deck with the correct number of cards. I thought round two would go a bit smoother. Coming up with 52 things that I love about Blake was a piece of cake.
Decorating the cards was a pain in the you-know-what. By card 25 my hands felt like they were going to fall off. Nothing says Happy Valentine’s Day like blood on a deck of playing cards. I snipped myself with scissors approximately 15 times, and don’t even get me started on paper cuts. After nearly gluing my eyelids together while cutting and pasting 52 cards, I had to paper hole punch each one INDIVIDUALLY, and slide each one on a binder ring. I wish I could say I loved every minute of putting it together, because I do have a creative flair, and I love making things for other people.
At least all the monotonous motions of making these cards resulted in a pretty cool gift, paper cuts aside.
Check it out!
